a more honest reply would have been

Dear Customer

we want to make more profit and since we have a monopoly on this either take it or leave it!

I actually sent a message to the AASFN asking them about the price increase. Here's their response:

Dear Customer

The cost of the coins and the shipping charges increased so we had to increase the price of the 2€ commemorative coin 2013 (24,00€ = cost of the coin + shipping charges).

Best regards

San Marino €2 Commemorative Coin 2013 - is San Marino scope only to make money?

Why?
2013 will be dedicated to JF Kennedy - the President is unrelated to San Marino but known worldwide - thus there will be a world wide interest in this coin

Price for this coin, if purchased directly from San Marino is €24 minimum

Comment by Igor on December 21, 2012 at 15:16

The 2 Euro coin price is 5 euros higher than the previous year, apparently getting close to the eBay price. It's starting to get very unreasonable and a bit too expensive for me.

For those who wanted to know the relationship between JFK and San Marino, relationship of Henry Ford would be enlightening. When did first car come to San Marino?
